"My father is a green witch, even if he doesn't acknowledge it, at 87 years old. These Rose of Sharon flowers are heirlooms of his 1960's specimens he grew on our property. A few years ago, after seeing lots of tiny sprouts popping up near one of his oldest trees, I asked kindly if he minded if I took one home and planted in my own garden. He said, "Why sure! Run the hose on 'em: the roots are long and slender and they pop right up!" I had no idea he was pulling up a larger bush (5 feet high) of purple AND pink; and sure enough, the beautiful plants slid right out of the clay-dirt. After a bit of shock (as he had warned), the plants' dark green leaves perked up, and just a few weeks later...I had beautiful flowers.
